Wind Farm Location

Closer View

I think this is an ideal place to place a wind farm for the following criteria:
According to :
Wind Energy Resource Atlas of the United States
Lake Superior
"The annual average wind power along Lake Superior shorelines is estimated to range from class 3 to class 5, with class 5 existing at exposed areas along the northern Keweenaw Peninsula, Isle Royale, and offshore areas of Lake Superior. In some areas, class 3 and 4 wind powers are estimated to occur at exposed sites 15 to 35 km (10 to 20 mi) inland from the shoreline. In the western part of Michigan's upper peninsula, the class 3 and 4 wind power areas represent exposed sites along the coast and in the Gogebic, Porcupine, and Huron mountains, where the wind power estimates are representative only of well-exposed sites on the higher elevations. "
Refference link for wind class :
the location i choose is around the GOGEBIC Area which has high wind powers.
With regards to the efffect of the wind farms to the bird population:
there are two types of birds that pass through these areas the Connecticut Warbler and the Tundra Swans. both birds reside on water or like water, the location i choose is far enough and has less vegetation so this area is very undesirable for this birds to fly over or stay.
Noise, Shadow flicker, Shipping impact, Landscape and Visual Impact:
The location is bassically in the middle of nowhere but have access roads thats a plus.
There are no close residental area so it could make all the noise and do all the shadow flickering it all wants.
Shipping impact: its an onshore Wind Farm so it wont really affect the shipping trade and it is far away from the shorelines.
Landscape and Visual Impact: there is not much to see in Gogebic, MI, so not much tourism going on and to get to the tourist attractions, people would take major highways rather that the back roads. People wont even know its there just like how everybody wants it.

Isohyet Map

Used: Manual Interpolation

I did a lot of eyeballing.

Cartogram

Continuous Cartogram , 10 Itereation
Used: Robinson Projection

Continuous Cartogram , Circular, Overlaping Polygons

Continuous Cartogram , Feature Shape, Overlaping Polygons

I think the circular non continuous is more appropriate to reperesent data but its crowded on some places especially Europe. And feature shape non continuous looks good on some places too....thats why i posted both.

I kept the original projections for the non continuous because i tried every recommended world projection and they all wont work properly.

Dot Maps

Total dots : 1000
Dot value 7 Houses per square mile
(rounded up my values)

Used a predifined projection :Europe Lambert Conformal Conic
Used equal interval to classify data. The following countries are not on the given shapefile but included on the survey:Russia, Uruguay, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kryrgystan

US Population Percentage by Division

It was required to used the a 5 equal interval Class but the 4th field on the legend value did not reperesent any Division. I think there is a better way to class the data. I went to http://www.colorbrewer.org/ to get the right shades (rgb) in using gray scale.

US Population Percentage by State

I think that this is a unipolar data and a sequential color scheme was the advised color scheme to use in this types of data.

I added 2 extra dataframes to give Hawaii, Alaska , and the 48 states different projections. For Hawaii I used a predifined projection which is the Hawaii Albers Equal Conic, for Alaska I used a predifined projection which is the Alaska Albers Equal Conic and for the 48 states i used the North America Lambert Conformal Conic.
Edited the Legend, I added the "to" because of the negative value.

Map Projection Lab

I used a predefined projection which is the North Pole Stereographic for the reason that it has minimal distortion when used in polar and it preserves direction and shape. We need to preserve direction to see the movement of the glacier and to see how it affects the sea level rise through land mass shape changes.

I used a predefined Projection Asia South Conformal Conic , this type of projection is recommended for middle latitudes for it has minimal distortion. I chose to use a conformal projection because it preserves shapes and angles, it is a great base map after the cyclone. It will help them see the changes in topography and conformal maps are commonly use for navigation and weather maps.

I have used a predefine projection the World Mercator Projection. I change the Central Meridian where the Pacific Ocean is for the reason that El Nino is a disruption of the ocean-atmosphere system in the Tropical Pacific having important consequences for weather and climate around the globe. Mercator is a conformal map which used for weather maps.

I used Predefined projection which is the North America Lambert Conformal. Conformal Maps are known to be use for plotting Navigational charts. All the local angles from a point and all local shapes are true which is valuable to the given scenario.

The Winkle triple projection is a compromise projection which is very ideal to use for general information maps. This map is also the current world atlas map that is being use by the National Geographic Society. So I would definitely create this type of map for elementary schools.

Map Critique Lab

I just moved to Baldwin County, I need a map that will help me find my way around. This map look nice and simple it gives me basic information but this map is a bad map because of the purpose I am using it for. This map wont be able to help me navigate my way around this new area that I am at.

This map may look blurry but you can check this map out at:

http://www.communitylink.com/maps/centralbaldwinal/baldwincountyal/mainmap_main.htm

It has a zoom in and out feature that shows you plenty of useful information, such as land marks, street names and more. This map is a very good map, it gives ample amount of information that can help me navigate my way around this area.

This map gives substantial information for what it is being used for, it has very effective labeling, well to sum it up i think it meets the six commandment's.

Mental Mapping Exercise

I am originally from the Philippines. My family's port of entry was New York. I was in the Coast Guard for four years. I have been to California for some training and got stationed in Texas for for the rest of my enlistment so these are my second choices I enjoyed it. Alaska is nice but too cold , the green areas are my least favorite. I move to Alabama with my Husband so I love to stay and work here and mostly north of Florida and off course if I could convince my husband I would love to move to Hawaii.
